Blogging has become quite a major part of the internet lately as it has become so easy to set one up. Anyone can now start a blog with virtually no technical skills needed with services like Blogger and WordPress. Only recently have I actually started reading peoples blogs (pretty much same time I started my own blog) so although its not a new thing to me, I cant say I know everything there is to know. What I do know though is that there are certain blogs which as a computer/tech enthusiast I have found to be quite interesting and a good read.
I don’t visit these all on a daily basis but these are some of the ones which I look at quite regularly. They are in no particular order but all of them I find to be quite a good read.
1. Tech Crunch
- Founded on 11th June, 2005, Tech Crunch has been providing great blog posts about some of the latest online products and companies. They mainly do reviews and profiles of new, startup companies/products but also cover existing companies which are having an effect on the web. With well over half a million subscribed readers this is one hell of a blog!
2. Engadget
- This blog is concentrated on gadget, hence its name and is perfect for those among us who like to know about the latest cool bits of technology to waste our money on. It covers everything from TV’s to phones, XBOX’s to computers, cameras to lights and more, much more. Highly recommended if you have lots of money to waste :p
3. Gizmodo
- Again based around gadgets and “gizmos” this blog offers the latest news and reviews regarding a whole range of cool new stuff. Compared to Engadget though I feel as if this site seems to give more coverage over existing products whereas Engadget tends to focus on new products - maybe thats just me though.
4. Lifehacker
- Lately I haven’t been here due to not having much time but I used to find this a good place to waste some time. It is based around getting things done, whether thats something in life or just, well… something. If you want to learn some random skills then perhaps this blog will interest you as it shows you how to do quite a lot of cool things.
5. Google
- This probably won’t interest you as much unless you are a web developer of some sort. It is the official blog from Google and covers virtually anything related to their services and products. They do have more specific blogs targeted to their products and services but this is their more general one.
6. Read/Write Web
- Aimed at web developers as well as keen internet users this blog offers updated news and reviews of some recent changes on the web. This is usually in the form of company/product updates or even profiling newly launched companies who are new to the scene. It also provides a good number of ‘guides’ and walkthroughs of some of todays websites and services which can be a great introduction if you want to know more.
7. Joystiq
- Joystiq is a technology blog based around the topic of gaming. It covers things such as the latest gaming industry news, reviews of upcoming gaming software/hardware, news regarding game development and a lot more. Deffinately a good read if you enjoy playing games but want to know a little more about it all.
8. Unofficial Apple Weblog
- If you’re an Apple fan then this is for you. It is of course based around the company Apple and takes a good look at virtually everything it does. From product reviews to company rumours this blog offers some good articles. It also keeps you updated with regards to other companies and products who may have some sort of interaction with Apple.
9. Technology Review
- This blog has been around for quite a while but is still a good read. It covers almost everything with regards to technology as some of its categories are infotech, biotech, nanotech, energy and biztech. Based on this alone you can tell this site blog covers quite a lot. It also regularly uses videos and other media/resources to back up some of their posts.
10. Smashing Magazine
- Created for web developers it covers such topics as font, design, coding and many more. It also offers good tips and advice for both beginners and experienced designers/developers who may be looking for that little push in the right direction. One thing which I do like about this blog is they quite regularly compile some very useful lists.
So there you go - just a few of the blogs I visit and find quite useful. Drop a comment if you regularly visit any of the above or let me know which ones you like.
